Jazz fans rejoice, because the Women In Jazz Jam Festival returns to downtown Knoxville March 16h and 17th! This will be the event's third year, and it's shaping up to be a good one.
Things will officially kick off Friday night at the Knoxville Museum of Art in partnership with the KMA's Alive After Five Concert Series. The Women In Jazz Jam Festival Band will be performing. The fest will keep it rolling on Saturday at The Emporium with music from 5:30 - 9pm. Performing acts for Saturday night are The Anna Helms Quartet, Kelle Jolly, and Ensemble Swing Time.
"New this year, on SATURDAY, MARCH 17, is the noontime "Women in Music Gathering" networking event at The Emporium Center. Women who perform or work in any genre of music are encouraged to attend and bring promotional material to share. Discussions will be led by organizers of the festival. This event is free and open to the public." - Kelle Jolly
This year's headliner will be violinist Diane Monroe. According to the event's press release, "For over a decade [Monroe] toured as first violinist of the Max Roach Double Quartet." She's also lead her own ensemble The Diane Monroe Quartet for over fifteen years and in that time appeared at the Kennedy Center’s Women in Jazz Festival in 2012.
Diane Monroe will perform at the WDVX Blue Plate Special on noon Friday of the WIJJF in addition to playing Saturday night at The Emporium with Ensemble Swing Time.
