Surprise! Volapalooza dropped their 2017 lineup late Friday night around 11pm, and it's a pretty baller list of bands. This event sure has come a long way since its beginnings in the early 2000s booking cover bands in Circle Park. Headlining this year's Vola, set to take place on Friday, April 28th in World's Fair Park, will be alt-rockers X Ambassadors. Many know X Ambassadors for their crossover hits "Jungle," "Renegades," and "Unsteady."
Joining X Ambassadors will be Coin, Pell, Mountains Like Wax, Electric Darling, and DJ A-Wall. All of these acts are exciting up-and-comers from different areas of music.
Coin recently had a Knoxville date at The Concourse. The Nashville indie-pop outfit is off to a red-hot start with a breakout song under their belt in "Talk To Much."
Pell is an American rapper whose popularity rose immensely on the heels of a collaboration with G-Eazy. His good-time party rap vibe will be perfect for a celebration of classes and final exams coming to a close.
Volapalooza, especially in the last few years, has done a great job of binging on some great local acts. This year that honor goes to a very deserving rock n roll outfit in Electric Darling.
Finally, a band from Middle Tennessee with some Knoxville ties, Mountains Like Wax is an excellent addition to this lineup. With only one official EP release, MLW has already been featured on Nashville's Lightning 100, toured around the country, and found their way on to a few festival lineups.
Tickets will go on sale Monday, February 27th. For more information, you can visit Volapalooza.utk.edu.
