A Couple Of East Tennessee Artists Compete On USA's 'Real Country'

A pair of East Tennessee country acts that should ring a bell for any Knoxvillian who frequents venues like Barley’s, Jig & Reel, and Pres Pub are on Season 1 of USA Network’s new music competition show Real Country. The Young Fables from Maryville, TN kicked things off on last night’s premier, and Dave Kennedy will appear on an episode to come. Each act is hand selected by one of the judges who also happen to be country music stars.

REAL COUNTRY is a new country music showcase series featuring multi-platinum, five-time GRAMMY Award®-winning trailblazer Shania Twain, ACM Award-winning and platinum-selling singer-songwriter Jake Owen and multi-platinum, GRAMMY Award®-winning country music legend Travis Tritt. Premiering this fall on USA, the eight-part series will film this summer in Nashville and is produced by Wilshire Studios, with Twain, Nicolle Yaron, Stijn Bakkers and Leslie Garvin set to executive produce.

The Young Fables were hand selected to be on the show by none other than Shania Twain. “When I heard Laurel’s voice for the first time, it was just extremely impressive,” Twain said about The Young Fables’ frontwoman. She then went on to say, “Wes is the perfect partner for Laurel’s voice.”

It was pretty cool to see award-winning country veterans heaping praise onto artists that music lovers here in Knoxville have known were great for a while now.

The frontman of Knoxville favorite Kelsey’s Woods, Dave Kennedy, was selected by Travis Tritt. You can see him in the intro of the first episode. Dave’s performances on the show are still to come. Real Country airs Tuesdays at 10pm EST.
